About Rollin Southwell and the RG Southwell Foundation

Rollin SouthwellAfter retirement from teaching School, Rollin Southwell (man from Utah) in 1995 Rollin became interest in the Lincoln Highway by a fellow coffee drinker at Bill and Nada. Quickly joining the Lincoln Highway Association and attended the First annual Conference He has been regular attendance to the National conferences.


Rollin has serves as a National director, President of the Utah Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association, conference chairman of the 2005 held in Ely, NV, and served as President of the Utah Historical Society, Trails Consortium. Research of the Lincoln Highway became a high interest to Rollin especially of The Lincoln Highway west of Nebraska. This section was also important the Lincoln Highway. His research included traveling up and down to the Lincoln Highway interviewing anybody that would talk to him. In this research Rollin discovered a unique connection Between Carl Fisher and the State of Utah. Carl Fisher donated some money to create a cut off of the Lincoln Highway across the Salt Lake Flats. In exchange for this money a monument would be built. This monument was never built. Rollin decided to build the monument. Finally after 10 years this monument was Dedication Oct 3, 2009. For this work Rollin received the Utah State History Award the Outstanding Achievement award for Preservation the History of the Fisher Pass in 2010.


Rollin Southwell has felt since the early days of the Internet that the Internet would be a new mediums to share history especially the migration of people. Sharing is one method of preservation history and the Internet would new way to lead. The RG Southwell Foundation was formed as a way use the Internet as a media to share history. Rollin was one the first to put a web page on the Lincoln Highway on the internet. Current Rollin is involved with lincolnhighway.com One of the Foundation purpose is to help people who have stories or pictures of the Lincoln Highway that would like to share.
