I am solving a multi part riddle. From the research I have done I am certain the first part of riddle leads me to the portion of the Lincoln Highway. After big mountain pass would the next stop west of the mountains be Salt Lake City. Any thoughts?

Befroe moving to Las Vegas I lived in Park Forest, IL about a half block off of Lincoln Hwy (Rt 30). Just recently I've been talking to my sife about a motorcycle trip across the country on Lincoln Hwy. I also wondered why Rt 66 gets all the publicity. I enjoy the web site. Thanks

During the late 1930's my grandparents managed "The Shady Nook" truck stop at the 1733 Ranch, which was located 1733 miles from Boston and 1733 miles from San Francisco. Across the street was the 1733 Amusement Park, where tourists would swim in the huge pool, or attend concerts from big bands traveling through, like Tommy Dorsey's band. My father and aunt swam in the pool everday as kids, and told many stories of the people traveling across the country who stopped in for gas and food. I hope to write a novel based upon The Shady Nook, the true center of America.

I am in the process of purchasing a hotel on the old Lincoln Hwy near the Lincoln Highway Bridge in Tama and near the landmark little park that has been established. I want my hotel to capture the history of the Lincoln Highway and plan a display in the small lobby area. I am trying to name the 14 room motel and toy with The Willow, The American Willow or Lincoln Highway Bridge Motel. The motel was built in the 1960's so doesn't carry a history to the road nor bridge, just its location. History is interesting. I am new to the area and am fascinated about learning more on the Lincoln Hwy.
Your website says see you in June in Iowa. Where will you be. I own the Super 8 Motel in the Tama Toledo, Iowa area as well. I would be glad to offer Friends of the Lincoln Highway a good discount.
call 641 484 5888 ask for Mr. Lavern H. Worple or if making a reservation tell the clerk I said Friends of the Lincoln Hwy Discount and to contact me. It will be about a 15% discount. Keep in touch.

Keep it going we can't lose the history.
In the 50's my first US Geography book used the Lincoln Highway to teach US geography. I loved that book and the trip it took us on. And even though not too much of it was in NY it did start here.

I attended school in Maine and Mass. during the 40s and 50s.  During that period, about 4th grade, we learned about the Lincoln Highway and it's significance to our nation and it's future.  From that time to this I have longed to make that trip from coast to coast on our "National Highway". My wife and I intend to attempt it this year from Ohio to Reno. CAN ANYONE GIVE US SOME HELPFUL HINTS?

Trvelers would stop for gas with the air conditioners hanging on the side of their cars and wondering where they were going. That is when gas was .29 cents a gallon and five dollars would let you drive all day on Saturday and then take a girl on a date that night.

This is the secretary for the Fisher Pass Monument Committee and I am here to tell you we are 20% from reaching our goal for having the Monument to Carl Fisher on top of the Fisher Pass/ Johnson pass. We will get this done regarless if the LHA joins us or not. They want to form a committee and we have the committee, we just wish they would join us like six chapters of the LHA already have. Its sad there are people in the world who won't play the game unless they get to be firsteverytime the game is played. But Games Do Go On with or without them. Heres a special thank you to the Chapters of the Lincoln Highway Assoication that has made a contribution and their support to our project. Thank You....Rose See

We went the whole way, Times square (NY) to Lincoln Park (SF) on the Lincoln Highway, round trip. We ate/stayed at only mom and pop restaurants and motels--we never spent a dime at a national chain business except for gas.I'm putting together a guide (like the old blue books and Duncan Hines guides) listing some good old places to stay and eat I might have missed on the road. Any thoughts? Lemme know. Thanks, Michael Williamson

Our Salt Creek Chapter Model A Ford Club of America here in Illinois is a member of LHA, and I enjoy reading the articles. Especially enjoyable was the article on Fish Springs. In 1960 or 1961, the Centennial of the Pony Express included a re-enactment ride of the Pony Express with a stop a Fish Springs. I was there that night, and found my way through the desert by following the convoy in front of me! Keep up the good work.

Comments:   Greetings, I was exploring a section of what I believe is the Old Lincoln Highway at the mouth of Lamb's Canyon today (up Parley's Canyon). On the East side of the road, up a few hundred yards, is an old concrete bridge, I believe is from the old road and at the very mouth of the canyon on the West side of the road is a turnoff that at one time had some black top. I drove up that west turn off several hundred yards until it turned into brush and I turned around. When I got back to the parking lot area at the mouth of the Canyon, I had the unfortunate experience of getting cited by a SL County Sheriff, that had no idea of what the road was. He seemed to think that I was just "4 wheelin'" and said that he would even cite anyone on the east section of the highway, where it crosses the old bridge. I have a court date next week for a class B misdemeanor. Cheers, Malcolm

The street that serves this area is the Historic Lincoln Highway - and we want it preserved, too. If you could get me any information you have that would bolster the case, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, if the members of your organization would like to attend to support the initiative, the meeting will start at 7:00PM at the Magna Recreation Center (3350 South 8600 West).
